Our society has been rocked over the past couple years with a complete financial meltdown. A lot of people that leveraged assets on real estate are in big trouble. What looked like a big next egg growing was actually a rotten egg. But this was not the only industry hampered. There are many of us that try to make our financial security secure.

Do you work night and day to make a better future for you and for your children? Do you want to retire at ____ and reap the benefits of your hard labor? We live in a world of chaos and most of us want something that is at least secure and sable that will give us some peace and happiness.

We are all on the same journey of life. Some have taken different forks in the road and some have been able to stay on the very narrow path. This is what the bible says about happiness.

John 14:27 “”Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give as the world gives……….”

No matter how long or hard you work, no matter how crafty or intelligent you are, you matter how much you plan, peace cannot be bought and it cannot be made by having what seems like secure things.

PEACE ONLY COMES FORM THE LORDS HOLY SPIRIT WHICH GOD GIVES TO THOSE WHO ASK.

If you are not happy NOW no matter what your circumstances you will not be happy with wealth. Peace only comes by allowing the Lord access to every part of your life.

The bible does not say anything about retiring. Retiring is a waste of the talents that God has given you. If you are not a believer and Hell is your future then God will probably leave you alone to retire. But if you are a believer and you retire from your job there is still much, much work to do for Jesus. If you are 65 maybe now is the time for full time ministry. Retirement is about storing treasure on earth instead of string treasure in heaven.

You may think “I want to make sure my children’s future is secure with college paid etc.” That may seem like a great idea but I know more people who had to work through college that came out far better than those who had everything given to them. If children and young adults feel a sense of entitlement then that is a cycle very difficult to break. Pray ad let the Lord determine what you should do. Let the plans be the Lord’s plans not yours.

I have been with many people searching for that elusive goal of “Peace”. True peace only comes from the Lord when you ask with a repentant heart. Peace is not an external reward but an internal shakeup of your spirit. When the Holy Spirit does a work in YOU He simplifies your life and enables you to enjoy the basics. As this New Year fast approaches make sure that you are not on the fast track to store up treasure here. Ask the Lord how YOU can store treasure in heaven.

Have a great New Years and think about Jesus.
